Growing up on a farm and showing pigs to pursuing agricultural engagement and leadership has named Brett Dienst a 2024 Illinois 4-H Young Alumni Award winner.

Brett’s journey through 4-H began with a decade of dedication to the Lincoln Highway 4-H Club, where he distinguished himself in pig showing with notable successes at both county and state levels. His role as a Kane County 4-H Ambassador further showcased his commitment, as he facilitated a range of programs including Government Day and enrichment activities at the Kane County Fair. Brett’s volunteerism extended to organizing and supporting fundraisers like the Pork Chop Dinner, which raises approximately $20,000 annually, reflecting his deep-rooted involvement in the 4-H community. Michael Long stated, “I believe the lifelong skills of responsibility and passion for agriculture started in Brett and many of us, by raising animals from a young age.”

His impact on 4-H extends beyond his own participation, as he actively volunteers and supports events in both Kane and DeKalb Counties. Brett plays a crucial role in connecting local organizations with 4-H programs, coordinating events such as the Pork Chop Drive-through dinner and the DeKalb County Livestock show. He also mentors older 4-H members, organizes community events, and helps senior 4-H’ers access scholarships and connect with young farmers, contributing to the sustainability and growth of agriculture in Kane County.

In his professional career, Brett began as a seed salesman at Seed & Agronomy, where his expertise and dedication led to a successful role at CHS Inc. in Elburn, IL. There, he served several counties and achieved a remarkable 50% annual sales increase over four years. Currently, as an insurance officer at Compeer Financial, Brett manages policies and communicates with Growers across Kane, DeKalb, McHenry, and Boone counties, leveraging skills honed from his 4-H background.

Brett's leadership is further highlighted by his current role as chairman of the Kane County Farm Bureau Young Leaders, where he leads one of the state’s most active organizations. Under his leadership, with over 30 engaged members, the group participates in networking, volunteering, and educational events. Brett’s exceptional leadership was recognized with the Top County Young Leader Chair award in December 2023. His dedication to leadership development is evident through his completion of the Agricultural Leaders of Tomorrow program in 2022 and his upcoming graduation from the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation in 2025. Christian Thurwanger, Sycamore High School Agricultural teacher stated, “Brett has consistently exhibited a level of professionalism, dedication, and proficiency that distinguishes him as an exemplary leader and contributor.”

Congratulations Brett!
