Denise started her 4-H story in 1965 as a 4-H member in both Walker and North West Nokomis 4-H club. In her 10 year membership she was a very active member who attended the Washington short course and multiple Leadership camps. Later on, she started working in Extension. First, as a community worker in charge of starting new clubs then as a 4-H educator for Jasper, and Christian county, and finally as director of Unit 18 Christian, Jersey, Macoupin, and Montgomery counties. While working as an educator, she helped create several 4-H school education kits including the 4-H electricity kits which included videos and curriculum. During her 30 year career with Extension, she was honored with the NAE 4-H Distinguished Service Award.

Denise has also raised her 3 children in 4-H. Her two sons, Dustin and Derek, both 10 year members, were selected for National Club Congress and earned 4-H college scholarships. Her daughter Erin is a current member of the Starr Shooters 4-H club and is also involved with Speaking for IL.

Denise helped restart the Montgomery county 4-H foundation which has been a tremendous support to the local 4-H program as well as for senior 4-H members with scholarship opportunities. Once Denise retired she went right into her volunteer role as a 4-H co-leader of the Starr Shooters 4-H club, Montgomery County 4-H Foundation member, and 4-H volunteer anywhere help is needed. Denise's love for 4-H is seen in her support, hours of volunteering and her willingness to help anytime it is needed.
