Cleo remains a vital volunteer in the Effingham County 4-H program. As a youth, Cleo was very active in 4-H and participated in the 4-H Federation. In his many years as a leader, he has gone door to door asking parents if they would be interested in having their children join the 4-H program. Cleo was very instrumental in getting the referendum passed in Effingham County to support University of Illinois Extension programming. When there is a child in need, Cleo is one to take quick action to make sure those needs are met. He does so without hesitation and that speaks to his character. He has served many years in the announcer stand at the Effingham County Fair calling 4-H members into the show ring. Each time Cleo takes the time to make sure all youth feel welcome and have a positive experience showcasing their projects. There is a saying that true leaders don’t create followers…they create more leaders and that is truly something Cleo has done for many youth in our community.
