Earl was in the field when the Assistant Farm Advisor, in Montgomery County, approached him about starting a 4-H club. Earl jumped on board and soon after married Doris. Together they raised four children and led them through the 4-H program. As leaders for over 37 years, hundreds of youth experienced 4-H through their club, Raymond Buckeyes. Their best memories are taking their members on behind-the-scenes tours of businesses and industries, end-of-the-year project tours when everyone piled into the back of trucks to visit each member’s house or farm to see their final 4-H project, going camping, and having an end-of-year club picnic. The Sorrells hosted seven different foreign exchange students on their farm during their club years. Their legacy does not end there as the Raymond Buckeye 4-H club is still in existence today and is a vital part of the Raymond community. Earl and Doris are true supporters of Illinois 4-H through their past club work, and numerous donations of time and money.
