William (Bill) McAllister served as a U of I Extension Adviser from 1955 until 1990. Starting his career in Stephenson and White Counties, Bill has always taken a major role in the 4-H program. In 1967 when Bill arrived in Macoupin County, he diligently worked to improve the local 4-H program by unifying the boys and girls 4-H clubs. Bill coordinated with the County Fair Association to expand the 4-H shows. With a new 4-H Building on the fair grounds, Bill worked to have more 4-H shows held at the facility. To improve the quality of 4-H projects, Bill taught schools where members improved their skills. In the community, Bill McAllister has always represented the 4-H program and the University of Illinois Extension with the highest regards. From chaperoning National 4-H Congress delegates to organizing youth in livestock organizations, Bill has symbolized what is good in the 4-H program.
