The Wendel Riggins family’s 4-H journey began decades ago, rooted in a shared passion for agriculture, community, and youth development. Over four generations, 42 family members have embraced the 4-H experience, with 17 actively participating as members, contributing a remarkable 145 years of combined membership. For the Riggins family, 4-H has always been more than an activity—it’s a way of life.
Their story is one of dedication and service. Family members have served as club leaders for 20 years and volunteers for 55 years, nurturing young people and fostering leadership across their community. The family’s commitment to 4-H’s values extends beyond local borders. One member represented the family at the National 4-H Club Congress, while another participated in the National 4-H Leadership Conference—moments that broadened their horizons and strengthened their connection to the larger 4-H community.
A highlight of their legacy is the family’s strong presence at the Illinois State Fair, where 12 members have shown livestock and projects, combining for 55 years of participation. Five family members have also cherished the 4-H camp experience, making lifelong memories and friendships that continue to inspire.
