How did 4-H contribute to your leadership skills today?

I developed my public speaking skills through 4-H at an early age by sharing my work at the county fair and sharing my accomplishments. I now feel comfortable voicing my thoughts in meetings, speaking in front of my peers or supervisors and teaching others.

Did 4-H instill a career path for you?

I always loved working with animals and the natural environment, which led me to pursue a career in marine and ocean science. Working at 4-H Memorial Camp solidified my love of working with people and sharing my passions with others. Education and community engagement have been major components of my professional career.

What advice do you have for someone who is interested in your career path?

Create your own path to your goals. My interest at a young age was marine science and that major was not readily available. I had seek opportunities to learn through internships, study abroad and volunteer roles. Never take for granted the people you will meet.

What advice would you give a current 4-H member?

I would encourage 4-H members to take each and every opportunity they are offered. Both in 4-H and through other avenues. I was presented opportunities to travel, to learn new skills, to meet new people and get out of my comfort zone.

Why should young people join 4-H today?

Some of my greatest friendships have come through my time in 4-H. Join 4-H to meet new people who you may not go to school with or participate in the same extra curricular activities. 4-H offers a breadth of programs that you will meet and learn from your peers.
