The late Ralph Spencer of Macoupin County was a devoted 4-H member and supporter for over 72 years.  Ralph's first 4-H project was a Duroc hog which won 1st place back in 1937.  That experience started a lifelong career in the Duroc hog business all over the world. He participated in 4-H and exhibited hogs at the Illinois State Fair for 60 consecutive years. Governor George Ryan proclaimed Ralph Spencer Day on August 17, 1998. Spencer contributed to 4-H throughout his life.  His memory will live on in the many 4-H youth he impacted due to his generosity.
