50 year leader of the Active Good Hopers 4-H Club in McDonough County
Mary McFarland retired at the beginning of this 4-H year after 50 years of service to the youth of McDonough County. Although Mary's father would not allow his daughter to be in 4-H as a youth, her passion for the program led her to be involved throughout her adult life. Mary had a remarkable gift for recruitment and brought many children to her club from underprivileged homes and gave them opportunities to succeed. Long before the term "mentor" was a part of our vocabulary, Mary was one.
