10 year member of the Silverleaf Let’s Go Ag 4-H Club in McLean County; 50 year leader of the Silverleaf Let's Go Ag 4-H Club in McLean County

One can hardly think about 4-H club work in McLean County without thinking about Gordon Ropp. Gordon was a successful 4-H'er in McLean County, earning a trip to the National Club Congress in 1949 for his work in Dairy Achievement. From his personal success as a 4-H'er, he returned to the dairy farm to work with his father and brother, Ray, after graduation from the University of Illinois. He has volunteered as a leader of the Silverleaf Let's Go Ag 4-H Club for 50 plus years. In addition to his work as farmer and 4-H leader, he was appointed Director of Agriculture for Illinois from 1970-1974. He was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives and served there for 14 years. Gordon was recognized as State 4-H Alumni winner in 1974. Gordon has always been interested in improving the lives of youth. As a result of his volunteerism and fine leadership example, he has motivated hundreds if not thousands of youth to a brighter future. He continues his club volunteer role willingly each year and is also very involved at the county level serving on committees and managing the 4-H Alumni Ice Cream Sundae Booth at each fair.
