How did 4-H contribute to your leadership skills today?

I served as the President of my club and through these leadership opportunities I was able to participate in activities like 4-H Day at the capitol. I learned how to lead meetings and network with lawmakers and representatives translate into the work that I do ever day. Being able to tell an impactful story about something you're passionate about shows up in every project presentation I make..

Did 4-H instill a career path for you?

When I was 13 I helped a local veterinarian do pregnancy checks on our calves. This really was the point that got me interested in agriculture. I set my sights on becoming a large animal veterinarian. When I got to college I found other interests that helped influence my majors and ultimately pursued a career in Crop Sciences. Without 4-H I wouldn't have found my passion for agriculture.

What advice do you have for someone who is interested in your career path?

Find professionals to connect with early to get hands on experience to understand what the kind of jobs you're interested in will be like. Partner with your 4-H club leaders, local extension office or find connections at your land grant university to connect with professionals to get job shadow opportunities, find internships or talk about what working in your selected field is like and what it takes to get there.

What advice would you give a current 4-H member?

Work hard, take every opportunity you can to try something different, choose projects you're passionate about, try to find a project that is different that you've always wanted to try! Now is the time to explore all of the great programming 4-H has to offer!

Why should young people join 4-H today?

I'm continually blown away at the programming 4-H brings to members through the great projects and leadership opportunities 4-H provides. Programming spans from projects on the farm to technology and amazing STEM opportunities. These are great ways to practice and learn about areas of interest.
