Did any of your 4-H project skills, experiences or connections help prepare you for your career path?
Absolutely! All of the above. The 4-H organization allowed me the opportunity to step of my comfort zone in many ways.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to enter your career path?
Take advantage of different internships. Agriculture is such a broad industry. By taking advantage of the internships it allows you to experience different sectors of the industry. Sales, research, customer support, digital technology, etc. Also, internships are the best interview anyone could ask for.
What did you learn through 4-H that benefits you today?
Getting over the fear of talking in front of an audience. 4-H was the first time in which I had to face that fear. From school, to my career, and even in my position in county government. I am constantly having to effectively communicate in front of a crowd.
How did 4-H contribute to your leadership skills today?
4-H instills work ethic, responsibility, and communication skills in every member. To complete projects, you must possess all of the above.
What advice would you give a current 4-H member?
If at first you don’t succeed, try again. Life is full of challenges and disappointments as well as opportunities and rewards. It is what you make of it, your choice.
Do you currently volunteer or have volunteered with the 4-H program? If so, in what capacity.
Through our Farm Bureau young leaders group (comprised of former 4-Hers) we have put a focus on Fair Week. Everything from hosting Ag Olympics, a mini livestock show for future 4-Hers, and the County Master Showmanship. I have had the opportunity to assist with all. I have also had the opportunity to help several kids with their beef projects, just as other 4-H families helped me.
