The DEIA committee will help to develop, refine, and monitor an implementation plan to advance the four strategic directions identified in the 2022-23 4-H DEIA Strategic Plan.

Those include:

  • Ensure that our 4-H priorities align with the inclusion and access needs within our communities.
  • Be transparent about our commitment to DEIA through our marketing, programs, resources, and opportunities.
  • Work with our youth, trusted adults, families, volunteers, and staff to create accountable and inclusive spaces.
  • Intentionally engage with community members who have not historically benefited from 4-H programs and resources while simultaneously examining any biases as we work with underserved communities.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the 4-H DEIA Committee is to foster a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible environment within our 4-H community. We are dedicated to advancing the principles of social justice, equity, and cultural competence to ensure that all youth and volunteers, regardless of their background or abilities, have the opportunity to thrive, learn, and grow through their participation in 4-H programs.

Our committee's objectives are:

Diversity: To actively promote and celebrate diversity by recognizing and valuing the unique backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of our members, ensuring that 4-H is accessible and welcoming to all.

Equity: To identify and address systemic barriers that may limit the participation and opportunities of underrepresented individuals and communities within 4-H, striving for fairness and justice in all aspects of our programs.

Inclusion: To create a culture of inclusivity where every member feels a sense of belonging and is encouraged to actively participate and contribute, fostering a supportive and respectful community.

Accessibility: To remove physical, digital, and attitudinal barriers that may hinder the involvement of individuals with disabilities, ensuring that our programs and resources are accessible to all.

Education and Advocacy: To provide ongoing education and training for 4-H members, volunteers, and stakeholders on DEIA topics, promoting awareness and understanding. Additionally, to advocate for DEIA principles within our 4-H organization and the broader community.

Collaboration: To collaborate with other 4-H committees, community organizations, and partners to further our DEIA goals and initiatives.

Through our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, we aim to empower every young person in 4-H to reach their full potential, develop leadership skills, and contribute positively to their communities.
