Jennings honored for work in veterinary science

A DeKalb County 4-H member recently claimed the top award for her work in the veterinary science project area. Justene Jennings was presented a $200 cash prize during a ceremony held Saturday, Nov. 19 in Champaign.

Justene Jennings is the 18-year-old daughter of Johnna and Dan Jennings of DeKalb. She has completed 10 years in 4-H as a member of the Green Meadows 4-H Club. She is a 4-H Ambassador and served on both the Illinois 4-H State Leadership Team and the Illinois 4-H Livestock Ambassador Team.

The award is sponsored by the Auxiliary to the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association which was represented by Illinois 4-H Foundation Board Chairperson Cheryl Wormley.

Justene was also awarded the 4-H Leadership, Citizenship, and Professionalism Award; the Legacy of Leadership Scholarship; and the State 4-H Key Award for achievements throughout her 10-year 4-H career.

The Leadership, Citizenship, and Professionalism Award is sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau and Affiliates. The Legacy of Leadership Scholarship is sponsored by Nannette Armstrong. The State 4-H Key Award is sponsored by the H. Richard and Sarah F. McFarland Endowed 4-H Youth Leadership and Character Development Support Fund.  The Illinois 4-H Foundation oversees the funds for the scholarships and awards.
