Illinois Farm Bureau salutes outstanding 4-H members

Leadership Citizenship Professionalism Award

The Youth Education Committee of the Illinois Farm Bureau and its affiliates awarded 10 Illinois 4-H members with its Leadership, Citizenship, and Professionalism Award at a ceremony held Saturday, Nov. 19 in Champaign. In addition to the award, the winners participate in an elite leadership training with members of Illinois FFA.

The winners included Jackie Beck of Shelby County, Drew Groezinger of JoDaviess County, Justene Jennings of DeKalb County, Shelby Ledbetter of Rock Island County, Jordan McLane of JoDaviess County, Rachel Miller of Franklin County, Abigail Mongan of Ogle County, Julia Taraszewski of Macon County, Brandi Welch of Mercer County, and Courtney Wiedenmann of Mercer County.

Jackie Beck is the20-year-old daughter of Janet and Jack Beck of Shelbyville. She completed 11 years in 4-H and held memberships in the Shelby Showstoppers and the Spark Shooters 4-H clubs. She was a certified member of the Speaking for Illinois 4-H Team where she advocated for the Illinois 4-H program.

Drew Groezinger is the 18-year-old son of Pennie and Daryl Groezinger of Stockton. He is entering his 11th year as a member of the Chelsea Busy Bees 4-H Club. He was a member of the Illinois 4-H Poultry Judging Team.

Justene Jennings is the 18-year-old daughter of Johnna and Dan Jennings of DeKalb. She has completed 10 years in 4-H as a member of the Green Meadows 4-H Club. She is a 4-H Ambassador and served on both the Illinois 4-H State Leadership Team and the Illinois 4-H Livestock Ambassador Team.

Shelby Ledbetter is the 18-year-old daughter of Noelle and Jim Ledbetter of Rock Island. She is in her eighth year as a 4-H member. She is a member of the Team Dauntless 4-H Club and serves as a Rock Island County Hunger Ambassador. She is a 4-H Teen Teacher where she uses her communication skills to teach younger youth.

Jordan McLane is the 19-year-old son of Annette McLane and Don McLane, both of Elizabeth. He is in his 11th year in 4-H as a member of the Shooting Stars 4-H Club. His projects center on agriculture, citizenship, and public speaking; and he is a member of the county Youth Leadership Team.

Rachel Miller is the 19-year-old daughter of Lisa Gariepy-Miller of Benton. She is a 10-year-member of the Heartland Pathfinders 4-H Club and worked as a 4-H Teen Teacher for both the Ag In The Classroom program and the Food Smart Families nutrition program.

Abigail Mongan is the 18-year-old daughter of Jean and Dan Mongan of Oregon. She is in her 11th year of 4-H and is a member of the Carefree 4-H Club. She mentors youth in the rabbit project and uses her skill in the clothing project in service to the Serenity Hospice and Home in Ogle County.

Julia Taraszewski is the 18-year-old daughter of Stephanie Taraszewski of Decatur. She is entering her 11th year of 4-H and is a member of the Homesteaders 4-H Club, as well as the Cross Fire Archers Alley special interest club.

Brandi Welch is the 18-year-old daughter of Kerri and James Welch of Aledo. She is in her 8th year as a member of the Kimel 4-H Club and also has membership in both the county horse bowl, Hippology, and dog clubs. She studies water quality as a member of the local 4-H Citizen Science Club.

Courtney Wiedenmann is the 18-year-old daughter of Barb and Jeff Wiedenmann of Coal Valley. She is entering her 11th year as a member of the Sherrard 4-H Club and a member of the horse bowl and Hippology clubs.

Presenting the scholarships on behalf of the Illinois Farm Bureau was Jenny Webb, membership and program specialist. In addition to her work in Farm Bureau, Jenny is a McLean County 4-H alumna where she showed Paint horses.
